Pathways into Hasidic Texts
Pathways into Hasidic Texts is an introductory seminar for Princeton University undergraduate students that opens up the rich world of Hasidic texts and ideas to those looking to explore the foundations of this religious and philosophical tradition. Each week, participants explore a different theme (such as Freedom, Identity, and the Body) through guided study and close reading of translated primary texts. Intentionally discussion-based and collaborative, the seminar is designed to foster thoughtful engagement across disciplines and perspectives. This program explores multiple different Hasidic traditions and thinkers, highlighting the diversity of voices and approaches that together constitute Hasidic thought. No prior background in Jewish studies or Hebrew is required. The seminar is open to all students, regardless of religious, cultural, or academic background. Curiosity and a willingness to engage seriously with challenging ideas are all that’s needed. Dinner is provided.
